Do I have to watch Chaos Head before Steins Gate? No, you don't have to, and you really shouldn't either. Yes, the anime is a straight adaption of the VN, though how good an adaption it is varies; Chaos;Head is a terrible one and Steins;Gate is basically a flawless one.

Chaos;Child is a thematic sequel to Chaos;Head. It's a new story about new characters, so it's possible to read Chaos;Child without reading Chaos;Head and understand most of what happens.

Relation to Steins;Gate

Chaos;Head takes place in the same universe as the of the rest of the entries in the Science Adventure Series. Its expanded re-release, Chaos;Head NoAH, retcons the year the story takes place in to 2009, one year before the events of Steins;Gate.

Chaos;Head Noah does, notably, feature some very mature content that does touch on these subjects contextually. That very well could be the reason Valve banned it as it was.

Spike Chunsoft has cancelled the planned Steam release of Chaos;Head Noah, but still plans to launch the Switch version of the title on October 7 as planned. The company announced on Friday that the Steam release was scrapped "due to Steam's guideline-required changes to the game's content."

Setting and characters

is it an eroge game? Nope. Just a regular VN. Its a story based VN, similar to Steins;Gate (which is part of the same franchise as this game) or Danganronpa.

The team behind Chaos;Head Noah, did a fine job doing what they set out to do, but confusing choices surrounding their game's interactivity and accessibility features aren't enough to save its gorgeous animation or strong plot and characters.

A variety of additional information that was not in the original ChäoS;HEAd was revealed in ChäoS;HEAd NoAH, such as more about what the Committee of 300 is really up to and who secretly works for it, the truth about Yua Kusunoki and her twin sister Mia Kusunoki, and how the world looks to Ayase Kishimoto's eyes.

Chaos;Head is the first entry in the series. It was originally released for Microsoft Windows in 2008; the complete version, Chaos;Head Noah, was released for the Xbox 360 in 2009, and later ported to PlayStation Portable, iOS, Android, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows.

It's overall decent but never gets truly good. The main complaints are as always from original source purists that cannot stand difference to the original. Chaos Head is well known as a bad adaption but it's not like the source material is any good either.

Darker and Edgier: Chaos;Head was probably the darkest entry in the Science Adventure Series until Chaos;Child got released, and even then it one-ups its thematic successor in certain aspects.

The Android, iOS, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable versions were censored in order to receive a CERO rating of D (ages 17 and up) and be released on those platforms. A Sequence in the "Crying Sky" Ending Route of Takumi experiencing all of the New Gen Murders was omitted due its gory and violent content.
